Debt-ceiling deal: What is it and what does it mean for the US?
This is all political theater and everyone is playing their part. Biden was always going to negotiate for a deal. McCarthy was going to rail about that but knew that Biden was going to wait till the last minute. But there is one thing that both the Democrat and Republican leadership know. Create the emergency and then push through crap legislation like this. All this really does is continue to kick the can down the road. This is only the beginning of out-of-control spending we have coming up if we continue down this part. This means that we MUST balance the budget. The Federal Government can only continue to take more than it is able to bring in with taxes and other revenue. This also means cuts across the board until it is balanced. All agencies should be cut. Military, social security and Medicare are not immune as these areas represent the majority of federal spending. You cannot balance in the long term or the short term if you do not address all 3 areas.
And if you even talk about this subject you are attacked by all sides.
So there are not really any politician in Washington who actually wants to. It may be talked about in the abstract but not in any real way.
